Van Badham’s ‘own modern classic’

ABC Radio

FIVE STARS: Expect to lose a lot of sleep when you pick up Burnt Snow! This debut novel by Van Badham is an astounding mix of YA romance, Hitchcockian suspense, Graham’s Green-ish wordsmithing and paranormal skullduggery!... This is a terrific book... it grabs you, shakes you, and makes your breath catch at the back of your throat. This is suspense written by a master–not for the nervous!

Rosie, Fangtastic Fiction

FIVE STARS: This is an addictive read… The complex and endlessly imaginative plot is filled with witchcraft, magic, and herbal lore, and you never know what the next turn of the page will bring. Burnt Snow ends with an emotional roller coaster of a finale that leaves the reader wanting more.

Adina West, Infinitas Books

FIVE-AND-A-HALF STARS: It's so totally freaking awesome I could not put it down! It could have been the end of the world and I wouldn't have known… I challenge Brody to face down every fictional guy character. Edward who? Patch, never heard of him. Dimitri....doesn't sound familiar… Burnt Snow is 679 pages long & chock full of so much action, teen angst, understanding, sexual chemistry & just plain awesomeness I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants an electifying and exhilarating read... I have to give it 5.5/5

Fictional Fantasy

FOUR STARS: This intriguing and well-crafted story slowly peels away the layers of normality to reveal a strange yet familiar darkness beneath... Addictive reading... Set aside a few hours and devour this book in one go. But be warned, the ending will leave you wanting more.

Australian Bookseller + Publisher

With all the teen paranormal novels out now, Burnt Snow (Book of the Witch) (Pan Macmillan Australia) should do well. I can’t make too many comments on it without spoilers, but the kids will love it, especially girls who have been reading all those novels featuring vampires, werewolves, faeries, daemons, angels and so on… Very believable!

I was compelled to read and read until I had finished it and then I had that devastating feeling like I'd lost a friend (luckily I think that there will be more!). I really enjoyed the whole world that was created and fell in love with the characters- in particular a Mr Brody Meine... (Jennifer)

This book was ridiculously good. I managed to get a proof of this just before it was published, as I work in a bookshop, so I carried an enormous unedited manuscript around for a week until I finished it. I didn't even care, the book was THAT good! (Imogen)

GREAT BOOK!!! I have read a lot of young adult-paranormal fiction and lately all the books have had the same Blah storyline, And you already know everything that is going to happen... But this book was a breath of fresh air, and I loved not knowing what was going to happen *sigh*. I cannot wait for the next book in the serie. (Rachael)
